A Brief History of All Saints Church

All Saints Church grew out of ecumenical Protestant beginnings in the late 1920s. A church was established at the corner of Cedar and Eighth Avenues. In the late 1930s, the Anglican community moved and held services in the Lake of Two Mountains High School at the corner of Oka Road and 14 th Avenue . Pastoral oversight was often given by the Archdeacon Morris, the Rev. Stanley Andrews and Mr. Harry Parker, a lay reader from Cartierville.

A house and lot on the corner of Boulevard du Lac and 11 th Avenue was purchased in 1948, and the building was renovated. The church was named “All Saints” in 1948, with Archdeacon Morris serving as Pastor. The building was dedicated on March 7, 1948 , by Bishop Dixon, and the first service of Confirmation was celebrated.

In 1952, the Rev. James Alldis was inducted as incumbent, responsible for All Saints and St. George's Church in Laval West.

To accommodate the growth of the congregation, the church moved from Boulevard du Lac and 11 th Avenue to our present site. While the church building was under construction, the congregation met in the Masonic Temple . The first service in the present building was Christmas Eve, 1955.

In 1966, the Rev. Robert Elliott began ministry as Priest-In-Charge of All Saints and St. George's ; he retired from ministry in 1977. In 1968, All Saints Church was blessed when members from the Mission Church in St-Eustache joined the congregation. In 1975, after a long and lively history in Laval West, St. George's discontinued services, and most of the members came to All Saints.

In 1977, the Rev. Peter Blunt was inducted and served six years. During this time, All Saints was granted rectorial status. In 1984, the Rev. Tony Harvey was inducted and served All Saints for four years. The Rev. Paul Charbonneau served here for five years between 1989 and 1994. The Rev. Paul Woehrle was inducted in January 1995 and served All Saints until February 2002.

What followed was an interregnum until January 2005 when Father Jim McDermott was appointed interim priest. This was a shared interim ministry with St-James Rosemere and lasted until December 2006. On Ash Wednesday, February 21, 2007 , the Reverend David Hart was appointed incumbent of All Saints Church by the Right Reverend Bishop Barry B. Clarke of the Anglican Diocese of Montreal. Reverend Hart was ordained and served in the Diocese of Liverpool, England.
